Of all the estates in the lush South African wine region of Stellenbosch, Hartenberg is among the oldest. The vines are purposefully planted to make the most of the sunlight, and the result is a pretty fruity expression from the small and concentrated shiraz and syrah grapes. There’s a perfumed violet scent on the nose with peppery and spiced notes, with just a hint of Karoo shrub.
