DIOR OBLIQUE: the secret to the timeless popularity of classic jacquard

When you walk down the street, you often see women with classic and elegant printed handbags and your eye can't help but be drawn to them. Only when a piece has stood the test of time is it considered a true classic, and the unique vintage floral prints of major brands are a case in point. The Dior Oblique jacquard, which has been particularly popular in recent years, has more than 50 years of history and blends seamlessly into the latest designs, making it the perfect mix of classic and fashion.

The birth of the famous floral pattern

The original name of Dior Oblique is Diorissimo, which means the ultimate of Dior. It was designed by the then artistic director Marc Bohan in 1967. It was officially launched on the market in the Spring/Summer of 1969, and began to be used for handbags, luggage, and even boutiques. It has since become Dior's signature print.

In 2000, John Galliano, who was at the helm of the brand, used Diorissimo on a saddlebag, which quickly became a coveted bag in the fashion world and remains popular to this day. In 2018, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri reimagined Diorissimo into the Dior Oblique canvas and used it to its full potential, creating a range of hot-selling bags such as the Book Tote, Saddle, 30 Montaigne, and so on.

Revealing the secrets of the OBLIQUE pattern

In homage to the original Dior Oblique, the creative director recruited the same textile workshops that created Diorissimo 50 years ago to create the new Dior Oblique. It is a complex and time-consuming production process with over 9,700 yarns used, with the same pattern on the front and back, with a dense, thick and weighty texture. Out of the passion and persistence for exquisite craftsmanship, Dior Oblique jacquard canvas is not only blue, but also dark blue, grey, and beige. By overlaying lighter colors on top of darker ones, it not only adds a retro feel but also creates a relief-like visual effect and a sense of three-dimensionality, reflecting the brand's persistence and dedication to perfect craftsmanship.
