Commissioned originally by Tsar Alexander ii, the cuvée reflects the finest blend of the vintage – made from grapes grown on the very best vines – while the clear, flat-bottomed bottle assured the Tsar of his safety amidst fears of assassination. The 1997 vintage has spent 15 years resting “sur lattes” and five “sur pointes”, which has given it a strong body, concentrated flavour and a saline freshness that gives it a young feel for such a mature bottle.
