With the constant waves of price increase in luxury brands, even up to several times a year, wouldn’t it be wise to shop the earlier the better? As the saying goes, the early bird gets the worm. Who knows? Luxury handbags could be a more worthy investment than stocks!

As international luxury brands scramble to raise prices, Hermès, one of the oldest and most prestigious brands, joins the bandwagon. Hermès had announced earlier that due to the rising production costs in Europe, prices of their products worldwide have been adjusted up 2% to 5%, including the best-selling Kelly, Constance, and Picotin.

1. Kelly 25 (Chevre, Sellier)

Old price around HKD 85,984, latest price around HKD 89,110, price increase reaches 3.64%.

Small handbags are in fashion lately and the smaller the size, the higher the price. Hermès is no exception. Handbags of 30cm or less in width are the most popular and saleable in the pre-owned market, with Kelly 25 being the best-selling and most difficult to come across.

Chevre is goat skin which is softer, shinier, and more durable and abrasion resistant than cowhide. The Kelly handbag comes in two stitching styles: outer stitching (Sellier) and inner stitching (Retourne). The Sellier has a more rigid, structured shape and pointy edges, giving a sharp and bold appearance, while the Retourne has edges that are rounder and softer and looks more casual and relaxed.

2. Constance 18 (Epsom)

Old price around HKD 60,188, latest price around HK$62,143, price increase reaches 3.25%. With its delicate size and unique qualities, Constance 18 is very popular amongst Asian female customers. Epsom is the hard cowhide leather widely used in Hermès bags. Manufactured using a special embossing technique, the leather is lighter and more durable. It is also water, scratch, and abrasion resistant, and holds true to its shape in all instances.

3. Constance 24 (Evercolor)

Old price around HKD 86,765, latest price around HKD 89,110, price increase is 2.7% which is lower than that for Constance 18. Comprising the characteristics of various leather types, Evercolor is smooth and textured, and can be glossy or matte.

4. Evelyne 29 (Clemence)

Old price around HKD 26,381, latest price around HKD 27,163, price increase is around 3%. Made from baby bull leather, the classic Clemence has been manufactured since the 1980s. The Clemence leather is heavy and soft, has a matte surface and flatter grain type. It is scratch resistant but not water resistant, and can be readily repaired.

5. Picotin 18 (Clemence)

Old price around HKD 22,473, latest price around HKD 23,059, price increase is 2.61%. Despite its smallest size, Picotin 18 provides sufficient capacity and its two top handles are long enough to prevent entanglement with thick sleeves or big coats. Can be carried by hand or on the arm.

6. Picotin 18 (Ostrich)

Old price around HKD 69,959, latest price around HKD 72,304. Owing to the rarity of the leather, the price increase reaches 3.35%. The marvelous simplicity of the design paired with luxurious ostrich leather creates a distinct style. Being the lightest in weight in the Hermès leather collection, ostrich leather is soft, wrinkle and water resistant, and extremely durable. What’s more, the feather follicles of ostriches are as unique as human fingerprints, making this leather type even more special.

7. Picotin 22 (Clemence)
