The secret to the success of Château Montus and this 2006 red is the terroir. Unlike most of Madiran, the soil at Montus' vineyard is similar to Châteauneuf du Pape, with steep slopes and large pebbles or galets some 20 inches to six feet in depth over a clay soil. This is a powerful wine that needs time to breathe and open up.
